YKAN’s sustainable forest management initiative in Berau, East Kalimantan, identified an opportunity to integrate Punan/Map’nan communities into forest planning activities near timber concession areas. The concept centered on establishing community-managed seedling and planting businesses. Before committing to implementation, YKAN needed evidence on whether such an enterprise was viable and whether affected communities had the interest and capacity to participate.
